Featuring the works of eight leading Canberra artists, It takes a Village celebrates the diversity of our birthing village — everyone who nurtures and helps raise our children.
It Takes a Village presents works by Niki van Buuren, Lynnice Church (Keen), Jane Duong, Lee Grant, Fatima Killeen, Rosalind Lemoh, Savanhdary Vongpoothorn and Marzena Wasikowska, and has been curated by Jennifer McFarlane, Curator of Arts & Health at Canberra Health Services. Parents from around Australia will also contributed photographs recording the moment their child met the village.
Maternity Services at the Centenary Hospital for Women and Children (CHWC) acknowledges the support of the Canberra Hospital Foundation, which has enabled the commissioning and display of these works. Following this exhibition at PhotoAccess, the works will be permanently installed in the Birth Suite, where they will support the CHWC’s inclusive approach to birthing.
It Takes a Village will be opened on Harmony Day, Thursday 21 March, at PhotoAccess by Ms Joy Burch MLA.
