Are you wondering what to do with all those boxes of 35mm slides recording past travels? Are the prints falling out of your family albums? Or would you like to do something with the snaps on your smartphone?
If the answer is yes! and you’re 65 or older, then we’d like to invite you to become a part of PhotoAccess’ Who’s In the Picture? workshop.
In Who’s In the Picture?, you’ll be part of a small group learning how to creatively review your photo collections, scan slides and prints and manage and process digital files.
Supported by friendly, experienced tutors, you’ll curate a selection of images from your personal archive and use them to tell your story through a printed photobook. Along the way you’ll have a professional portrait created to add to your story.
Photograph collections are a wonderful resource through which we can reflect on our lives and pass on experiences, and Who’s In the Picture? will support you to share your wit and wisdom with family, friends and the wider community. And, you’ll acquire the skills to continue enjoying and sharing your images after the workshop concludes.
We’re looking for twelve individuals, aged 65 and over, to participate. No photography, computer or technological skills are required, though you’ll still benefit if you already have some photography background. All you need is a willingness to learn new skills and an interest in sharing your story.
The workshop sessions will run on Mondays from April 4th – May 30th, from 10am – 12.30 pm, at PhotoAccess at the Manuka Arts Centre.
PhotoAccess will formally launch the Who’s In the Picture? outcomes through a photo-book exchange event on 23rd June at 6pm. This will be a wonderful opportunity for participants, project supporters, friends, families and the wider PhotoAccess community to come together to celebrate your and the other participant’s achievements and to recognise them as part of Canberra’s collective memory.
Who’s In the Picture? is free for participants.
PhotoAccess will supply all necessary tutors and equipment and cover photobook production costs, as well as some morning tea. You’ll need to bring your energy, enthusiasm and your photographic collections.
This project was made possible through the support of generous private donors and a Creative Partnerships Australia Plus One match funding grant.
