School Holidays: Spring Photo Workshop
What will we be doing?
Join us for an exciting 3-day photography workshop during the school holidays! Guided by expert tutor Eunie, kids will learn the basics of digital photography, including how to use a digital camera and techniques for capturing great images. They’ll also get hands-on experience with basic digital editing software to perfect their images.
But that’s not all! Kids will also explore the creative world of analog photography, using the power of the sun and light to make cyanotypes and photograms. They’ll learn the history of these techniques and how to create unique, beautiful prints using everyday materials.
Finally, kids will tie it all together by creating a small take-home book to show off what they’ve made. This workshop is the perfect way for kids to explore their creativity, learn new skills, and have fun during the school holidays.
All cameras and equipment provided! Kids can also bring their own camera if it’s in working order.
Suitable for 10-16 year olds.
Program
Wednesday, October 4th, 2023 – 9 am to 4 pm at PhotoAccess
- Spending the morning using digital cameras to take photos around the Manuka Arts Centre gardens and Telopea Park
- Editing these photos on the Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop and Lightroom
- Printing these images and starting to plan the small take-home book
Thursday, October 5th, 2023 – 9 am to 4 pm at PhotoAccess
- Learning about the beautiful process of cyanotypes, creating images from the sun
- Coating your own cyanotype paper
- Making cyanotype images with objects and materials
Friday, October 6th, 2023 – 9 am to 4 pm at PhotoAccess
- Getting acquainted with the PhotoAccess darkroom
- Learning about photograms, their similarities to cyanotypes, how these images are made with light
- Making and printing photograms in the darkroom using objects and materials
- Putting all of the images made over the 3 days in a take-home book
What age is this for?
This 3-day course is suitable for ages 10-16. Beginners to more advanced photo-makers are welcome to enrol.

Tutor
Eunie Kim is a Canberra-based photographer and visual artist. She studied cinematography in South Korea and photography at the Canberra Institute of Technology. Her multicultural background led to her interest in the intersection of different cultures, visual storytelling, and how this can be portrayed using mixed media including alternative photographic processes. She was granted the PhotoAccess Wide Angle Residency in 2021.
The Fine Print
Enrolments for this workshop close at midday (12pm) on October 1st, 2023. As a not-for-profit, our financial margins are narrow and classes require a minimum number of participants to run. In the event that PhotoAccess cancels a workshop, refunds will be paid in full or a transfer allowed free of charge. If a class is postponed, we will endeavour to reschedule at a time convenient to enrolled participants.
PhotoAccess will happily refund or transfer workshop fees up to 7 days prior to the start date of the workshop. If less than 7 days’ notice is given, PhotoAccess can offer a partial refund. Alternatively, enrolment can transfer to another workshop plus a $50 transfer fee. If less than 48 hours are given, no refunds or transfers can be given. Please note that memberships purchased in conjunction with a workshop enrolment are non-refundable. See Terms and Conditions for further details.
