Sunprints can be a beautiful and captivating way to make your photographs into tangible works of art. In this engaging workshop, you will learn the ins and outs of sunprinting; experimenting with Photoshop manipulation, creating digital negatives, using and mixing colourful SolarFast chemicals, and composing and producing physical fabric prints. Taught by local photographer and artist Maddie Hepner, this workshop will have a specific aim at utilising portrait photographs to create interesting mosaic pieces. Bring a portrait photograph digital file you want to use, and we’ll teach you the rest! Artists and photographers of all skill levels are welcomed.

Week 1
Editing, manipulating, and experimenting on Photoshop with your portrait photograph. Learning what traits from an image create a good digital negative. Creating templates for the mosaics and preparing them for printing.
Week 2
Experimentation with the physical digital negatives; cutting, rearranging, composing them for exposure. Introduction to SolarFast chemicals and how they work. Starting to print small sun prints with the digital negatives created.
Week 3
Full dive into creating sun prints. Coating fabric, arranging negatives, exposing, and washing processes. Possible re-evaluation of negatives.
Week 4
Print and experiment to your hearts content.
