Join Contemporary digital artist Rory Gillen on a journey through the possibilities of smartphone based 3D Photogrammetry, GIF making, and Augmented reality over 4 weeks. No prior
experience in alternate digital photography required, just bring your smartphone!
Wanting to expand your photographic practice? Or just want an exact topographical replica of
your own face? Confused and a little excited by the black mirror in your pocket? This is the
class for you! Explore the wonders of the post digital image and begin probing the gap between
the physical and digital realm in this new class offering.
Week 1: Thursday the 22nd April, 6 – 9pm
Introduction to the post digital; Art, Artists and New Media.
See the work of other artists in this field and begin tackling the question o what the role of the image is in the 21st century. We’ll be getting to know our phone cameras and making your first gif!
Week 2: Thursday the 29th April, 6 – 9pm
In week two we will be moving onto 3D photogrammetry, bringing small physical objects into the virtual realm by mapping and recreating them in digital form. Have you ever wanted to have your own 3D virtual teddybear, or prized trophy? Now is the time!
Week 3: Thursday the 6th May, 6 – 9pm
In week three we will enter the world of augmented reality. That is – placing digital images, gifs or videos into the real world environment as seen through your phone camera! We’ll be taking the GIFS and objects you created in the first two weeks of the workshop and inserting these into your own augmented reality.
Week 4: Thursday the 13th May, 6 – 9pm
In our last week we’ll wrap up and share what we’ve learned, with some more time for going back to the apps you grew to love and making some final works. Then, we will ‘install’ our images, GIFS or objects digitally and make an augmented reality exhibition here at PhotoAccess!
