Photography is Dead! Long Live Photography!
Presented in collaboration with students from ANU’s School of Art & Design, PhotoAccess Stages a Funeral for Photography:
An evening celebration of the life and death of photography as we know it.
When: 6pm-9pm on Thursday the 15th of June, 2023
Where: PhotoAccess, 30 Manuka Circle, Griffith ACT 2603
It is with regret that PhotoAccess announces that photography has passed away.
On the evening of the 15th of June, the organisation will be hosting a memorial service to celebrate the life and contribution of photography and photographers. As we have yet to receive the coroner’s report, we you to refrain from speculating whether the medium’s demise is to be blamed on artificial intelligence or Instagram.
All members of the public are welcome to attend this enigmatic one-night-only event, where they will witness a funeral procession for the image, accompanied by the haunting live sounds of a specially commissioned lament, complete with special guests. Inside the gallery, mourners can explore the history of photography and the influences that lead to its rise and demise, or else pay their respects an open casket viewing of Photography’s corpse.
The community will be invited to share their memories of photography and ponder its life from the daguerreotype to the drone, from the ambrotype to AI. Presented in collaboration with students from ANU’s School of Art & Design, it promises to be a memorable evening full of catharsis, mysticism and themed food and beverages.
No registration is required for this event.
