Join the PhotoAccess team at 6pm on Thursday 14 February for three new exhibition openings by Angus McGrath, Mikhaila Jurkiewicz and Tessa Rex.
Angus McGrath | Semiotics Club
McGrath’s ‘Semiotics Club’ follows in the footsteps of Hal Fischer’s 1977 book ‘Gay Semiotics’, but uses photo and text on readymade media to place this narrative in a personal context, beyond that of just queerness and into the equally coded realms of dance music and punk culture.
Mikhaila Jurkiewicz | Seen&Heard
Seen&Heard is is a collaborative effort of photographer Mikhaila Jurkiewicz and designer Erin O’Brien, inspired by people. The works showcases a series of large format photographs which focuses on women, trans, nonbinary and gender diverse people who are doing interesting, and creative things in Australia.
Join Mikhaila Jurkiewicz and portrait sitter, Sia, for an artist talk in the PhotoAccess Huw Davies Gallery from 5:45pm.
Tessa Rex | Boreal
Sydney-based artist Tessa Rex presents still and moving images captured on The Weight of Mountains residency in sub-arctic Dawson City, north-eastern Canada. Recorded on film with a Nikkormat camera in temperatures exceeding -40C and developed in a bootleg darkroom onsite at the Klondike Institute for Art and Culture, the images become a haunting future document and witness our climate changing world.
The exhibitions will be opened by Lynne O’Brian, President, The Canberra SpringOUT Pride Festival and Marzena Wasikowska, Artist and Researcher.
Exhibitions continue until Saturday 16 March 2019.
No registration is required for this event.
