We all have a story. A running narrative unique to each of us, comprising our hopes and dreams, our depths, and our heights. Our stories make us, us. One of the beauties of these individual stories is where they meet, merge, and intersect with others. When shared, they create a community voice – a piece of history, a peek at the future.
What’s your story and how does it connect with those of people of different ages? What would you like to say about living as LGBTIQA+ in Canberra today? Do you think that an important moment from our past has been forgotten? Or would you like to share something with the LGBTIQA+ youth of today?
If these are your kind of questions and you identify as part of the LGBTIQA+ communities, then we invite you to express your interest in participating in Forward Together: An intergenerational story-telling project!
We’re looking for ten people from across the LGBTIQA+ communities to join a supported multi-week workshop exploring the wisdom and skills of people of different generations and producing your own short film sharing your perspectives and life experiences. We’re looking for five people aged 30 years or younger and five people aged 55 and over.
No prior film-making experience is required, and the workshop is also suitable for people with some video-making or digital media background. All you need is a willingness to learn new skills, an interest in sharing your life journey and a desire to contribute to our collective story.
Led by PhotoAccess and Gen S Stories, in partnership with Meridian and A Gender Agenda, Forward Together has been made possible through the support of a generous ACT Government Office of LGBTQI+ Affairs Capital of Equality grant.
The workshop will be led by experienced artist and film-maker Jenni Savigny, supported by professional PhotoAccess photographers and videographers and a sound engineer. Meridian and A Gender Agenda staff will also contribute to participant discussions.
The workshop will run over six Saturday afternoons, from 12 noon to 4 pm, starting on 17 April and concluding on 5 June, 2021. Participants will be expected to attend every session and devote some time outside the workshop meets to developing their ideas and materials.
There will be a pre-workshop information session in March 2020 (date, time and venue to be advised), and we’ll let you know if you have a place in the workshop after this session.
Depending on participant wishes, Forward Together may conclude with a gala public launch of the workshop films.
The workshop is FREE for participants.
Deadline for Expressions of Interest is: Monday, 8 March, 2021, at 11.59pm.
