With fundraising completed in June 2021, Who’s In the Picture? brought together 25 generous donors committed to empowering older Canberrans to use their photographic collections to share stories and contribute to our collective memory. Through a series of eight-week workshops to be delivered during 2021 and 2022, participants aged 60+ will learn how to creatively review their photo archives, digitise and edit slides and prints, curate a visual story and produce an individual printed photobook reflecting on an aspect of their life. In a time where social isolation is a particular challenge for older people, Who’s In The Picture? will build creative skills enabling participants to connect better with family, friends and the wider community, as well as preserving their wit and wisdom for future generations.
Thank you to the generous donors who supported Who’s In the Picture?, and to the Australian Government through Creative Partnerships Australia for providing match funding through a Plus 1 grant.
Who’s In The Picture? responds to this challenge, enabling thirty people, aged 60+, to learn how to use their treasured photo archives to contribute their experiences and insights to our collective memory. Participants spend eight weeks with PhotoAccess, discovering how to creatively review their photo collections, scan images and process digital files. Each participant will curate a selection of images and use them to tell one of their stories through a printed photobook ready to be shared with family, friends and the wider community. After a year in which we’ve all, and older people in particular, experienced social isolation, this opportunity has perhaps never been more important.
Who’s in the Picture? supporters have the opportunity to join the participants at the end of the program at a PhotoAccess exchange evening launching their photo-books and celebrating their photography journeys. They were also invited to join PhotoAccess’ Supporters Circle, a friendly group which gets together at appreciation events throughout the year.
