PhotoAccess partnered with ACT Deafness Resource Centre and Gen S Stories on the Digital Storytelling project TheĀ Sounds of Silence, providing a free digital storytelling course to members of the hearing-impaired community living in Canberra.
The project provided professional support for five people to each make a 3-5 minute film about a personal story related to their own hearing loss or that of a family member.
Is there life after deaf? What’s that squeak in the car? Have I turned into my father? Is it possible to study a master’s degree with profound hearing loss? Can people accept me for my talents? These questions are explored by five Canberrans with hearing-impairment, in their own words and with their own images.
