Huw Davies Gallery

PhotoAccess Huw Davies Gallery
PhotoAccess invites artists at all stages of their careers to showcase contemporary photo-based art in a supportive and stimulating artistic environment. Our exhibition space, the Huw Davies Gallery, is the only not-for-profit gallery in the ACT exclusively dedicated to contemporary photo-based art. We cultivate excellence in the PhotoAccess exhibition program by supporting great art and arts practice. Our program aims to show the very best work by local and visiting photo-based artists, demonstrating both technical and artistic excellence, to inform and inspire audiences. Our exhibitions and public programs encourage and extend the critical debate about contemporary photo-based art practice.

Artists and curators are invited to submit exhibition proposals. Proposals are considered by the PhotoAccess Gallery Committee. The Gallery Committee is particularly interested in proposals that:
  • present new still and/or moving image work by emerging, mid-career and/or established artists
  • involve artistic experimentation and innovation
  • encourage, develop and extend critical debate about contemporary photo-based art practice
  • reflect or document the ACT and region and the creative interests of the community
Exhibitions may occupy one or more rooms in the Huw Davies Gallery. PhotoAccess encourages artists/curators to consider applying for the all three rooms of Huw Davies Gallery to exhibit a large, resolved and coherent series of works.

Exhibition proposals are made to the Gallery Committee and are considered on their merit and availability of dates, in order to present a diverse gallery program of high standards. Submissions for our 2018 gallery program closed midnight Wednesday 31 May 2017. Click here for the 2018 application form, terms and conditions. Exhibitions run for four weeks (including installation and pack down times), usually opening on a Thursday night and finishing on a Sunday. PhotoAccess Huw Davies Gallery has standard opening hours: Tuesday-Thursday 10am-4pm, Friday 10am-7pm and Saturday-Sunday 12noon-4pm. PhotoAccess is closed long weekends. From 2017 PhotoAccess takes a 30% commission on sales. Artists and curators are welcome to contact us to discuss their proposal prior to submission.
